I suppose most of it was a consequence of starting to work for Renderosity. When you’re constantly staring at renders – a lot of them, not to put too fine a point on it, pretty crappy – you just start to lose your enthusiasm. And when you’re testing for the store, Poser becomes just a piece of software that you use to check something isn’t broken. Not something with which to make art.

Also, you begin to apprehend your own amateurishness. You realise that although you’re technically very proficient and experienced, there is a certain spark which will probably always be missing from your work. You look at the artists you most admire, and you sigh, because you know you can’t produce anything so inspired, and probably never will.

But then you look at certain pieces that you produced, and you think yes, actually, that was pretty good.

So! There are a few things that I intend on doing/producing over the next couple of weeks and I hope I can find my creative muse again.

One thing I have positively learned is that I admire good photographs probably above all other forms of art. If I am choosing something to hang on my wall, I will almost always be drawn to a photograph before anything else. Maybe that’s because I’m finally at a point in my life where I enjoy living in reality – I no longer want to escape it.
